Hi! I am a family photographer in the Asheville/Hendersonville area and I LOVE capturing bright and joyful photos of fun and authentic families creating memories together in the beautiful 828!
In this blog post you are going to see an adventurous and outdoorsy family photo doing something fun that they love doing together! What I love about this session is that this family isn’t doing something they wouldn’t normally be doing on a Saturday morning, they just happen to be being photographed this time! Let’s make family photos a little less boring and a little more ADVENTUROUS this year!
This family loves doing outdoor activities together like camping and hiking, but they especially love fly fishing, so we set off to the Davidson River in Brevard early on a Saturday morning to do a little family fishing! This river and this gorgeous early morning light made the perfect outdoorsy setting for their family photos!
The hardest aspect of this location was probably this short climb down to the river from the parking lot and then walking across the wet rocks towards the center of the river. There isn’t a hike, the river is visible from the parking lot, you just want to be careful with your footing! We took it slow, and they were pros anyway, so they made it look easy! Even while carrying a baby!
If I was working with a toddler/young child or a family with multiple kids, I would probably choose either a different river or just a different entry area with a sandy bank so that they could move around more freely/safely, but this spot worked great for us for this session! I have other rivers locations that I use in Fletcher and Asheville so if you’re interested in a river session but would like it to be more accessible/kid-friendly or closer to where you live, just let me know when you inquire and we’ll find the perfect spot for you!
This couple brought their one year old baby girl with them who is already so familiar with fishing and loves the water! She was honestly so content the whole time! I think it was because she was doing an activity with her family that was not out of the ordinary for them! It was something she is not only used to but also enjoys doing with her family!
I know a lot of families worry about how their kids will do during photo sessions, myself included, but you can definitely set them up for success by choosing a fun and adventurous photoshoot activity/location that you know they will enjoy! Inquire here to book yours!

The morning sunlight streaming in through the trees at this shallow, rocky river was absolutely INCREDIBLE! As a family photographer, this is now my favorite photo location in Brevard, and probably in my top five favorite locations in the Asheville/Hendersonville area!
